Firefighters Using Body Cameras to Film Call-Outs

Firefighters in Hull could soon follow in Hampshire Fire Service’s footsteps by having Reveal body cameras to help decision-making and collect evidence.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has four tough compacts Reveal cameras issued to the crew areas.

The cameras will work alongside existing cameras fitted onto firefighting equipment and vehicles, which already capture video and audio call-outs.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service believe the Reveal cameras will help in:

  • Providing evidence to support legal arguments, including fire investigation.
  • Protecting authority property.
  • Collating evidence for criminal investigations and prosecutions.
  • Improving learning and sharing of best practices.
  • Boosting operational decision-making.
  • Providing a safe and secure environment for staff.
  • Protecting the community.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Chris Blacksell is pleased with the new technology and is confident it will help crews and provide a better service.

He said: "I am really pleased we will now be trialling body-worn cameras for fire crews. We already have video capability on all of our appliances which assist us during protracted incidents or when reviewing fires, rescues, or road traffic collisions. But these body cameras will be able to assist us further."
